How Do Dentist Fix A Chipped Tooth

If your tooth have been chipped due to any reason like trying to open a soda bottle with you teeth or due to accidental biting on a hard stuff then don't worry you can get your chipped tooth fixed as new by cosmetic dental procedures. A dentist who is trained in cosmetic and restorative procedure will make it so life like and aesthetic you can't even imagine. (look at the picture bellow)

When you are saying chipped tooth I am presuming that small flake of your tooth surface is chipped and most probably it is the front tooth. You can get chipped tooth corrected very easily and without any pain in just single sitting by a procedure called as Composite bonding. There are few other procedures to correct a chipped tooth but composite bonding is most efficient, easy, aesthetic and cost effective.

What's composite bonding ? - Composite bonding is a kind of dental restorative procedure to restore the aesthetic and function of a tooth which may have broken due to any trauma or decay.

What is composite ? - Composite is a mixture of different materials which are combined together to enhance and complement each others property.Composite is primarily made up of synthetic resins, filler particles, shade producing agents, chemical initiators and inhibitors and much more.

Composite comes in a form of kit, There are 3 main component of composite kit.

  1. Adhesive
  2. Etchant.
  3. Composite Syringes

Composite is packed in a syringe like thing and comes out in a semisolid form This semisolid paste like substance is used to build up the chipped portion of the tooth.

Method of composite bonding to fix a chipped tooth

Step 1. Tooth is cleaned with prophylaxis paste.

Step 2. Chipped area and sharp margine will be slightly smoothened

Step 3. Chipped area will be treated with an etchant (blue colored gel)

Step 4. Tooth surface will be blotted and a layer of adhesive will be applied (bonds the composite with tooth) a blue colored light will be shown over the tooth surface from a gun like equipment.( It cures the adhesive layer)

Step 5. Composite will be applied layer by layer and cured by blue colored light.

Step 6. Proper tooth anatomy is restored in the chipped area by incremental buildup of the composite.

Step 7. Composite will be polished

Step 8. A mirror will be given to you to see the work and praise the dentist for his hard work.

Time taken for the procedure 45 minutes depending on difficulty level.

Cost may be any where between 150$ to 500$  cost may go on higher side depending upon the status and skill of the dentist.

If your tooth have been chipped with large amount of tooth structure loss then your dentist may suggest you about  veneer or crowns for proper strength and buildup.
